FAQ's

Am I Required to have a MEL?

A Minimum Equipment List is required for all turbine operators other than 14CFR 91 operators. (However it is strongly recommended for 91 operators, otherwise everything within the aircraft must be fully functional!)

How Long Does FAA Approval take?

We can have a draft copy ready for your approval in as little as 3-5 days.  However - The FAA’s review process generally takes 60 days. However, the FAA has no official deadline. Part 91 RVSM approvals is one of the lowest priority FAA tasks and the process can extend to several months depending upon the workload and number of available inspectors at your local FSDO. Note: Neither the operator, the aircraft manufacturer, nor any third party can influence the speed of the FAA’s review process.

Do I need a LOA (Letter of Authorization)?

A letter of authorization grants authorization for RVSM operations. It also authorizes the use and development of the MEL.

Can I transfer the manuals from the previous owner?

The documents are non-transferable. The LOA becomes null and void the day the aircraft changes ownership. A new application must be submitted to the local FSDO for approval.

What if a FAA Inspector asks to see my MEL, procedures document and LOA?

Because the FAR requires that the MEL, procedures document and LOA be carried on board the aircraft, the operator must show an FAA inspector, or other authorized representative of the administration, the documents requested when requested to do so.

What happens when an original MEL is no longer appropriate?

This would depend on the condition that cause the MEl to become inappropriate.  Since a MEL must be revised whan an MMEL is revised
